About Cosmetic Laser Surgery

What is a laser?

A laser is a machine that emits energy in a specific wavelength of light. If this wavelength is absorbed by your body, it can have a dramatic effect.

What can lasers do?

Cosmetic lasers can help if you have aging, loose or rough skin, stretch marks, red and blue veins showing through your skin, unwanted hair or tattoos.

Are lasers dangerous?

Most lasers are very safe. Burns of the skin are possible if the setting is too high for your skin. Usually a test treatment is done to be sure your skin responds as expected.

What lasers does Dr. Morgan use?

Dr. Morgan uses a Gentle Yag (ND Yag) laser in the office and CO2 and erbium lasers and laser liposuction in the operating room. The Gentle Yag can remove unwanted hair, improve ‘beard bumps’, smooth or tighten damaged skin including stretch marks and erase tiny red and some blue blood vessels in the skin. It can remove some tattoos. Dr. Morgan will explain everything. Plus we give you everything in writing. There is nothing to worry about.

How many laser treatments do I need?

It depends on your situation. For instance, if you are a man wanting removal of hair in several areas, you may need 9 or more office treatments. If you have red blood vessels on your cheeks, you may need only a few office treatments.

How long is my recovery?

Most office laser treatments leave your skin a little pink and that’s all. For a CO2 laser resurfacing done in the operating room, you have 5-10 day of recovery and pink skin for at least three months.

What about risks?

Everything we do in life has a certain risk. Severe complications are uncommon. For office treatments, the chief concern is your needing more treatments than planned or not having as dramatic a result as fast as you hoped. It’s easy to find out more about lasers.
